About the act

Award-winning Welsh harp music with a modern outlook

Bethan Welsh is a professional Welsh harpist and singer with more than ten years of experience performing at weddings, functions and funerals. She is an award-winning musician and the only Welsh recipient of the coveted Danny Kyle Award at Celtic Connections.

Known in the Welsh folk scene as Bethan Nia, she is equally comfortable with classical music, traditional Welsh pieces, pop standards and jazz-influenced improvisation. Bethan performs on a Welsh-made harp called The Eos, whose name translates as Nightingale.

Bethan studied at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and worked as an actress and musician before focusing on harp and voice. Career highlights include two consecutive years at Glastonbury, Bryn Terfel's Christmas programme on S4C, Celtic Connections, Festival Interceltique de Lorient and the opening of the Llangollen International Eisteddfod; her music has also featured on BBC Radio Wales and Radio Cymru.
